We see drivers exhibiting behavior like this quite often.
We’re absolutely astonished at the lack of common sense with motorists right now.
Yes it happened again!
Two separate vehicles within a 20 min span drove over a sidewalk on to a lawn to go around our blocker fire truck Saturday night.
WHAT IS GOING ON MOTORISTS?
Tillsonburg Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire and as always we closed the road for our safety. Our giant bright red Pumper/Tanker with all it strobe emergency red lights activated COMPLETELY blocked the road. One vehicle jumped the sidewalk at full road speed.
These pictures are of one vehicle being escorted back out of our safety zone. The fire truck was backed up to give the vehicle room to leave.
Four fire trucks, two police cruisers and one ambulance all with emergency lights activated. People have no idea what’s going on behind our blocker truck. This easily could have resulted in a first responders death by being struck by a car.
“I didn’t see the fire truck”
“No one was there to direct me”
“I don’t know any other road to take”
“What else was I supposed to do the road was blocked”
If there is a fire truck blocking a road curb to curb. The road is CLOSED period!
Whether it’s a big or small emergency; we WILL always close the road. We’re not sorry for the inconvenience because each and every one of us are going to come home safe.
Share this with your parents, friends, children, community pages; have a discussion with people off line about road safety. Let’s use some common sense out there.
