Flourtown responded on its 40th call of the month this morning to assist the Lower Providence Fire Department on a multi-alarm structure fire. Squad 6 with a crew of 6 operated on scene for several hours.
This morning around 11:40, the Flourtown Fire Company and Barren Hill Fire Company, were both dispatched for a home fire alarm on the 200 block of Northwestern Avenue in the panhandle section of Springfield. The first arriving crew from Engine 29 discovered a working fire in the residence and quickly forced entry and stretched an attack hose line through the front door to extinguish the fire. The crew from ladder 6 performed a primary search for victims and conducted overhaul to check for fire extension. Without working smoke detectors, this fire would have most likely gone unnoticed and the damage could have been far worse.
Members continued to train on the Ladder truck this past Monday night. We reviewed and discussed deploying and packing our 3” hose for supplying the truck. The new ladder presented new ways of operating for all our members. So we continue to train on all the facets of the truck in order to provide the best services we can to Springfield and the surrounding communities.
