Flourtown Brings Home Trophies

On Saturday, September 25, 2010 – a group of members traveled the 2 hours to the Pa. State Convention Parade in Hanover Twp. (Wilkes Barre). Once there we found  that Montgomery County was well represented. The companies from the county did very well in the trophy department, with Flourtown being no exception. We came home with:

1st Place – Most Functional Rescue – Pumper and 1st Place – Best Appearing Dalmatian

Whitemarsh Twp. Commercial Box 9-2-2010

Station 6 (Flourtown) and Station (29) dispatched on box 32-28 for the commercial building fire. Chief 6 went en-route and was advised by county that roofers were doing work on the building and the building was filling with smoke and possibly had fire in the wall.  County also advised that the alarm company was on the phone and was reporting a smoke detector activation for the building. Upon arrival Chief 6 had smoke showing from the area the roofers had been working in. Engine 6 arrived and pulled an 1-3/4 and went to open up the exterior wall. Ladder 6’s crew went to the interior to open up and check for extension in the wall. Fire was found in the wall and extinguished as the crew’s opened up. 29′ s crew assisted with ventilation and checking for extension to the 3rd floor.

Forcible Entry Training– Prospect Park Fire Co.

For the past two Monday nights, April 19th & 26th, members of Flourtown ventured down the Blue Route to the Prospect Park Fire Company in Delaware County for some hands on forcible entry training. Crews got to experience as real world as possible training on an impressive door prop built by Firehouse Innovations. Multiple scenarios were conducted on both inward and outward swinging doors, using a variety of forcible entry tools and techniques. This training better prepares our firefighters for making quick access into a building which could lead to faster rescues of trapped occupants.

Our sincere thanks go out to the Prospect Park Fire Company for allowing us the oppurtunity to train with the door prop. A special thanks to Fire Chief Mike Signora for conducting the training.

Thank you also to Lt. Chris Manning for setting up this training
